Carbohydrate Sources and Iams® Cat Nutrition
All Iams cat nutrition products are formulated to fit the special nutritional requirements of your cat for his or her specific life stage or lifestyle. Iams research has shown that some products benefit from having a a combination of carbohydrate sources. This combination offers optimal carbohydrate digestibility and helps maintain normal blood sugar levels after a meal.
Carbohydrate Ingredients
Our cat foods contain a variety of carbohydrate ingredients.
Maize: Iams uses only high-quality maize kernels that have been finely ground to break up the outside covering of each kernel, then cooked to increase digestibility. It is part of the special carbohydrate blend found in Iams Cat Nutrition.
Sorghum: Sorghum, is cracked, finely ground and cooked before it is added to our dry cat foods. It is another carbohydrate source in our special carbohydrate blend.
Rice: Our nutrition uses rice that has been milled, ground and cooked, to optimize digestibility.
Wheat: Wheat is another high-quality carbohydrate source that is used in our Iams® dry cat nutrition.
Optimal Digestibility
Highly digestible diets are an important factor in your cat's nutritional well-being. They deliver essential nutrients efficiently, so there is minimal waste. Innovative research by Iams® scientists has shown that the combination of sorghum and maize, provides a highly digestible carbohydrate source, which breaks down evenly, thereby helping to maintain normal blood sugar levels after a meal.
Carbohydrates and Blood Glucose
The slow, even breakdown of the carbohydrate sources such as sorghum and maize results in, stable moderate blood glucose levels after a meal. Diets containing such carbohydrate sources help to minimize swings in blood glucose levels.
Carbohydrate Sources and Iams® Cat Nutrition
Our cat formulas contain a blend of maize and sorghum. This carbohydrate blend optimizes the rate of carbohydrate digestion and assimilation, helping your cat maintain stable blood glucose and energy levels after meals.
