Antioxidants and Immune Response
Antioxidants and Ageing
You want your dog to have a healthy immune system. Iams® research has shown that we can help by incorporating antioxidants into our dog foods.
Antioxidants are important, naturally occurring nutrients that help maintain health by slowing the destructive ageing process of cellular molecules. Antioxidants can also be important in improving immune responses in dogs. This may be especially critical for young animals that are being vaccinated whilst their immune system is still developing. Antioxidants can also help address decreases in immune-cell activity for senior dogs.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants are nutrients found naturally in the body and in plants such as fruits and vegetables. Common antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and certain compounds called carotenoids
Antioxidants and Immune Response
Because antioxidants play a key role in minimizing damage to cells, such as those that make up the immune system, recent research examined the benefits of certain antioxidants on the immune system activity of dogs. The results of these studies confirmed that antioxidants are important in helping dogs maintain a healthy immune system.
Antioxidants and Ageing
Recent research indicates that as dogs age, immune cell responses may decline, and including antioxidants in the diet can help address this decrease in immune cell function.
